A Personal Trainer is a fitness professional who is qualified to design and supervise individualized fitness programs. Professional trainers are accredited by nationally recognized fitness organizations - A.C.E. (American Council of Exercise); N.A.S.M. (National Association of Sports Medicine); A.C.S.M. (American College of Sports Medicine) - are the most respected. A qualified trainer will have experience with and an understanding of human anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, nutrition, and exercise science. Because of their expertise and motivational skills, they make the difference between success and failure of your fitness goals. HOW OFTEN DO I NEED TO TRAIN? It varies. Depending on your level of fitness and your desired goals, a program will be tailor-made to suit your personal needs. However, most people need to train about two or three times a week. DO I NEED TO BE "IN SHAPE" BEFORE I START TRAINING WITH A PROFESSIONAL? No. Everyone begins at a different level; no two people are alike. You should never be embarrassed about not being in shape. The important thing is that you're doing something about it. Everyone has to begin somewhere. The end goal is what you aim for. CAN I TRAIN WITH A FRIEND? Yes - presuming your friend is at your fitness level. It will be more cost-efficient for the two of you. WHAT DOES A SESSION ENTAIL? A basic training session includes warm-up, strength training, cardiovascular exercise, and flexibility stretches (Obviously, a yoga session is completely different). Your program will vary depending on your specific needs. Fitness evaluations can be made such as body fat testing, step test, flexibility etc. A postural assessment should always be done. |
